Carmarthen Judo Club juniors put through their paces.
Carmarthen Judo Club juniors put through their paces.
Recently, at Carmarthen Judo Club's new dojo (training hall) at Carmarthen Leisure Centre, a day to examine members knowledge of judo was held. The Welsh and British Judo Associations set a standard that each judo fighter has to reach before he/she is given the opportunity of getting or changing belt colour.

A coloured belt denotes the level which a student is currently at with a grading being held to let them attempt to achieve a higher grade.

The grading at the Club was held under the auspices of the Welsh Judo Association with their representatives in attendance.

It was a great turnout with both juniors (under 16 years) and seniors taking part.

The day was split into two areas of expertise with a Welsh Judo Association coach in charge of each. The first was a training session at which each participant practiced their judo and names of each throw, hold and referee terminology - all in Japanese of course!

The second was the examination itself with each participant being called out to demonstrate all they had learnt over the year in the Judo Club.

The Coaches in attendance were impressed with the standard of the young people taking part and each one was awarded a grade. Everyone enjoyed the day and thanked Louise Beard and Emyr ap Siôn (club coaches) for their unstinting loyalty to the Club and their students.
