Medal haul for Carmarthen at Schools trials. Source : Geoff Griffiths, Thursday, April 5, 2006.
Kate Walters was attending her first major competition and fought in the under 48 kilogramme category. Despite her inexperience at this standard she showed great commitment and excellent judo skills. She made it through to the final and was narrowly defeated by a more experienced international fighter. She was however, well pleased with her British Silver medal. Catrin Davies was fighting in the under 52 kilogramme category which proved to be extremely competitive. Catrin was competing in her first major competition since an injury sidelined her for several months. After a tentative start she began to show the talent which has brought her a place in the Welsh Squad. Her skill and determination brought her a well deserved British Bronze medal. The only young man in the team was Tom Wood fighting in the under 66 kilogramme category which contained many national medallists and British champions. Tom had a disappointing start but as the Championships progressed he showed great determination and finally achieved a result which his efforts deserved gaining a British Bronze medal. They were congratulated by Louise Beard the Club Coach who watched and coached from the mat side."
